A Few of My Favorite Things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad!

It’s almost April in the Magic City! Which basically means it’s Summer because #AlabamaWeather.

I thought it’d be fun if I shared some of my favorite warm weather health and beauty products with you. I’ve called this list “The Classics” because just about everything on my list are things you’ve probably either seen or used before. My mom and even my grams may have used these products at one point or another.

So you’re probably thinking the change in seasons calls for a major change in what products you’re using, right?

The classics are so deemed because they are timeless; they never go out of style!

Favorite Things_Burt's Bees Clarisonic Simple St Ives

  • Simple Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes
    • I’m just hopping onto the makeup-remover-wipes train because I thought they were a waste. I always thought, “I can just use my face wash” – WRONG!  When I’ve gotten home from a long day and I’m too tired to wash my face these are a life face saver. These are great too because they aren’t just makeup remover wipes. They are also cleansing wipes so they’re useful on days when I don’t wear any makeup at all but my skin still just needs a light cleanse. Bonus: for all you girls with finicky skin like mine, these may work for you! They don’t leave my skin too dry or oily and they don’t leave a residue, which is a big concern for me because I inherited oily skin from dear ol’ mom and my skin is prone to breakouts during the summer months if it’s not babied.
  • St. Ives Apricot Scrub
    • This is definitely a throwback! Remember when this scrub used to be so rough it would almost literally take your skin off? Well they did some tweaking and now you can use it without fear! I started using this scrub in the shower a few months ago and I love it. You can use it on your feet, your body, and even your face because it’s not heavy and doesn’t leave a film behind. I feel like I get a deeper clean now when I use it and it keeps my skin feeling soft all summer long. Bonus: Use it before you shave and your legs will definitely feel like a baby’s bum.
  • Burt’s Bees Acne Solutios Cleanser and Astringent
    • Ok, so I don’t actually have teenage-level acne prone skin anymore but your girl suffered through it for years before and it is no joke! Now that I’ve gotten my skin healthy and clear I want to keep it that way! I looked for a while for a gentle cleansing system that wouldn’t load my skin up with harsh chemicals (looking at you Benzoyl Peroxide) but would keep my skin clear during these humid and sweaty spring and summer months and I think I found it. The cleanser and astringent both have Salicylic Acid in them which is good to treat light breakouts and it is not drying on my skin. These products also make my skin brighter so my #BareFaceSelfie game is so strong now!
  • Clarisonic
    • Listen, the hype is so warranted for this cleansing brush. Really. My Clarisonic cleanes my face so deeply and evenly without being too harsh (I use the sensitive brush head).  Use it in the shower or out. Use it day or night (or both). It just gives you a deeper clean than what you can get by yourself and your products sink deeper into your skin because of that. It leaves your skin feeling so fresh and so clean, clean. I have used my Clarisonic for over 4 years now and it hasn’t let me down yet!

Favorite Things_Bobbi Brown Burt's Bees Eucerin

  • Bobbi Brown Moisturizing system
    • This is one of those “momma knows best” products. My mom used this for about a year before I did and kept telling me how amazing it was but I just didn’t see it. Then, last Christmas, she bought me the set and I’ve been a believer ever since. This. Stuff. Is. Amazing. My skin is so much brighter, smoother, and overall healthier because of these products. They keep my skin ultra hydrated and I’m almost positive I’m, like, glowing a little bit. I alternate use of these products with my Burt’s Bees during the day to get the perfect skin regimen of daytime acne fighting  and night time moisturizing. You know why Diahann Carroll looks like she’s 25 when she’s 80? Because she moisturizes. I’m just saying.
  • Eucerin Cream and Coconut Oil
    • This is the dream team of moisturizers. Think these may leave you too greasy? Okay, okay, hear me out. These two products can leave your skin a bit greasy if you don’t use them right. BUT… my skin is soooo moisturized after using them. And, again, I have an amazing glow! You don’t have to use both products together to ward off dryness, honestly one or the other works fine by itself. But if you want to level up and get that other-worldly glow these are your secret weapons. You don’t have to use them everyday if they’re not needed that often; once or twice per week is fine! Coconut oil is very light and your skin absorbs it quickly so you can use it daily. Also, because it is a dry oil it won’t clog your pores so you don’t have to worry about breakouts on your face or body. If you enjoy the smell of coconuts the smell is a bonus. Eucerin is a heavier moisturizer but lasts longer so it can be used as part of a once-per-week regimen. If you have dry skin, or even parched skin, get these products. Use them for a month. Thank me later.
  • Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme
    • Don’t let the name fool you. This “creme” is really a thick oil balm! It has a soft coconut  smell that can win over even the most steadfast coconut haters. What I like about it is it doesn’t leave my feet feeling greasy or slippery at all. I use it right out of the shower and usually put on a little extra right before I head out as an extra measure. It is best paired with whatever moisturizer you already use on your skin. Use it regularly and it makes your feet soft and smooth. No crunchy munchies for me this summer!

What are your favorite spring and summer products? Do you use any of my favorites? Let me know!
